The Observatory produces content analyzing the world of video games in a variety of formats. We inaugurate it with our first video on the evolution of gamers.
This is a decisive factor in the supply policy of the Cultural and Creative Industries. In this video, we present three profiles with different gamer careers:
- the old guard
- the leisure gamer
- the new generation
Each is characterized by its own consumption practices, forms of socialization and modes of play, which unfold in spaces that are ultimately quite autonomous.
The evolution of our audiences is one of the factors behind our current difficulties. The offer, based on models of linear growth of audience bases, has not been able to pivot to new uses in time. This increases risk, forcing us to outperform or die, or to work the long tail, which is contrary to a historical sales model focused on the first days of launch.
The question now is how to talk to the old guard about AAA, and how to (re)educate the new generation’s tastes, so as to establish controlled, readable standards for the industry.
A vast program, so first and foremost, what kind of gamer are you? Watch the video.
